Bangkok Workshop (Songkran) / (April 13th-20th 2025)

€849.00

Be prepared for what might be the craziest week of photography you’ve ever experienced—an unforgettable adventure!

Whether you share my passion or are new to the incredible world of capturing moments on the streets, this is your chance to join one of my workshops and learn directly from me.

Believe it or not, when I first visited Bangkok in 2013, I didn’t like it. But when I returned a few years later, I fell in love with the city. For street photography, it’s incredible. The people are warm, and the city is full of character. One of my favorite spots is Chinatown, especially at night. With its neon signs and bustling crowds, it’s an exhilarating place to shoot.

In 2025, I’m offering a special workshop during Songkran—the Buddhist New Year, also known as the water festival. Photographing it is a thrilling experience!

Worried about your camera getting wet? Consider bringing underwater housing or an inexpensive waterproof camera bag from Amazon. In my experience, basic protection is more than enough, and I’ll show you exactly how to keep your gear safe.

Songkran officially lasts three days, giving us plenty of time to explore other parts of Bangkok. We’ll also visit Pattaya to shoot on the final day of Songkran. It’s absolutely wild and offers a completely different experience from Bangkok—you’re going to love it!

Workshop Overview:

In my workshops, I aim to help you elevate your photography skills to the next level. We’ll start by reviewing your portfolio to understand your current level and identify areas for improvement. Together, we’ll determine which aspects can be refined. To address these focus areas, I’ll provide you with tailored assignments to work on throughout the workshop.

„Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity“

You might have heard about this famous quote from the Roman philosopher Seneca and it still is true to street photography. And my goal is that after attending the workshop you find luck everywhere you go. 😉

We’ll discuss gear, and I’ll provide practical tips on camera settings to help you achieve the best results and stay ready for any moment. This includes techniques for achieving fast, accurate focus—an area many street photographers find challenging.

In addition to technical advice, I’ll teach you how to approach strangers on the street and get close to your subjects without being held back by "approach anxiety."

Workshop Schedule:

  • Sunday (10am-6pm)

We’ll meet at noon to get acquainted and review the workshop schedule. We’ll also go over your portfolio to identify key areas to focus on throughout the workshop. In the afternoon, we’ll head out for our first photography session—perfectly timed for the first day of Songkran, an exciting way to kick off the adventure!

  • Monday (10am-6pm)

We’ll meet at 10 a.m. to review the photos from the previous day. After lunch, we’ll head out to shoot.

Since it’s the second day of Songkran, we’ll explore a different part of the city. We’ll shoot for as long as you’d like, but based on my experience, it’s helpful to take a break at some point to recover from the excitement before continuing.

  • Tuesday (10am-6pm)

We’ll meet at 10 a.m. to review the photos from the previous day. After lunch, we’ll head out to shoot.

Since it's officially the last day of Songkran in Bangkok, we can either capture more of the festival or explore other areas of the city that we haven’t visited yet.

  • Wednesday (10am-8pm)

We’ll meet at 10 a.m. to review the photos from the previous day. After lunch, we’ll head out to shoot.

Later, we’ll go to Chinatown to shoot after sunset, which is one of the highlights of Bangkok. The streets will be bustling with people, and you’ll have a fantastic time capturing moments in every direction.

  • Thursday (7am -10am& 3pm - 8pm)

We’ll start early to visit Hua Lamphong Train Station, which typically offers the best lighting in the morning. While it's not as busy as it once was, it's still a great spot for photography.

After a break, we’ll meet again and head to Wat Arun. This beautiful temple attracts many visitors each day and offers fantastic opportunities for street photography.

  • Friday (10am - 6pm)

After breakfast, we’ll take a minivan to Pattaya, which is about a 2-3 hour ride. Once we arrive and check in, we can review the images from the previous day. After dinner, it might be a good idea to go out and shoot at night.

In Pattaya, Songkran lasts a full week, so be prepared to get wet!

Alternatively, we could head to Pattaya very early in the morning, leave our luggage at the hotel, and catch a ferry to a nearby island with beautiful beaches. It could be an interesting spot for photography as well. We can do the image review after dinner later that day.

  • Saturday (11am - open end)

This is the grand finale! We’ll meet up for lunch, and after that, we’ll get ready for the craziness that will unfold in the afternoon. We’ll head to Beach Road, where there will be plenty of activities to capture. The party continues until the next morning, and shooting after sunset can be even more exciting—but it's entirely up to you.

  • Sunday (10am )

It’s the last day of the workshop. After breakfast, we’ll check out and head back to Bangkok. If you're catching an early flight home, you can also take a taxi directly from Pattaya to the airport.

  • a camera with manual settings, ideally with a prime lens no longer than 35mm (or equivalent)
